Rio Ferdinand has slammed cuts to benefits for widowed parents, ahead of a documentary about how he has coped with his wife's death. The footballer, 38, has criticised government changes to the bereavement payment system, which currently allows widowers to receive benefits until their youngest child leaves school. The former Manchester United star's wife Rebecca Ellison died from breast cancer aged just 34 in May 2015. Rio spoke out about the changes to the benefits, which will see widowed parents receiving a one-off lump sum and up to 18 months of payments. Brazilian website Globo are reporting that Chelsea midfielder Oscar received so much online abuse he was forced to delete a photo from Instagram. The picture in question was posted on the social media site by Oscar in mid-December, and it featured his sister Gabrielle (left) and wife Ludmila (right). Oscar stood between the two ladies with a big smile on his face as he got a kiss on the cheek from the women in his life. The picture got plenty of attention for the placement of Oscar’s hands in the snap. Globo note that online trolls labelled the image as incest and various other plays on that theme, and in the face of all the abuse the Chelsea man deleted the update. The image can be seen above.
